President Obama held his farewell speech on January 10, 2017. President Obama spoke a lot about threats to democracy, while also addressing the successes of the past 8 years. His final remarks were:

“I am asking you to believe.  Not in my ability to bring about change – but in yours. I am asking you to hold fast to that faith written into our founding documents; that idea whispered by slaves and abolitionists; that spirit sung by immigrants and homesteaders and those who marched for justice; that creed reaffirmed by those who planted flags from foreign battlefields to the surface of the moon; a creed at the core of every American whose story is not yet written: Yes We Can. Yes We Did. Yes We Can.”

Barack Obama’s approval ratings at the end of his presidency were at 54% — his highest since 2009. A quarter of Americans say President Obama is one of the Nation’s greatest presidents. 


Donald Trump made a ban from some of the countries with the most muslims. He banned seven countries, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. On January 30, 2017, Donald Trump fired the acting attorney general, Sally Yates for disagreeing with him on the Muslim Ban. For more information, click here.


The movie Hidden Figures has been a huge success, and is making even more money than Star Wars: Rogue One. Hidden Figures is currently shown in two thousand theaters in America.
The film has 93% out of 100% on the Rotten Tomatoes website (which is really good). Hidden Figures has been in the top five at the box office  for weeks since its release. Current standings (as of February 8, 2017) are: Split, Rings, A Dog’s PurposeHidden Figures, and La La Land.
